They had come to an understanding during those dangerous final days in Aeor, and while they had never spoken the words aloud, he knew what he felt for the other man was real. They just both carried so much baggage with them, baggage that would take a lifetime to overcome. But he was willing to sift through it together, if they could. As best they could.

Light filtered in through the curtains, soft and hazy. It was that pre-dawn glow that made everything look just a little bit magical and mysterious. Joe loved those moments when Cherry still slept, his eyes shuttered to the morning sky coming to life. Joe could watch Cherry sleep for hours, the gentle rise and fall of his chest. He looked peaceful, this way. No wrinkle of annoyance pinched between his brows, no snide comments (though Joe loved those, too). He just simply...was. His Kaoru. Always his Kaoru.
