Light filtered in through the curtains, soft and hazy. It was that pre-dawn glow that made everything look just a little bit magical and mysterious. Joe loved those moments when Cherry still slept, his eyes shuttered to the morning sky coming to life. Joe could watch Cherry sleep for hours, the gentle rise and fall of his chest. He looked peaceful, this way. No wrinkle of annoyance pinched between his brows, no snide comments (though Joe loved those, too). He just simply...was. His Kaoru. Always his Kaoru.

Joe brushed a stray lock of hair from Cherry's cheek, leaning down to press a soft kiss to his lips.

Cherry stirred in his sleep, one eye cracking open to look blearily up at Joe.

"What...what time is it?" Cherry asked with a jaw-cracking yawn.

"Early. Go back to sleep, love."

Cherry stretched, arms reaching out to pull Joe to him, cushioning his head on Joe's shoulder.

"Then sleep, you overgrown ape," Cherry mumbled into Joe's chest. He trailed kisses along Joe's bare skin, drifting back to slumber once more.

Joe smiled and curled his arms around Cherry protectively, pressing one last kiss to Cherry's forehead and falling slowly back to sleep. They had a lifetime of mornings to look forward to, after all. Joe planned to savor every one of them.
