Summary: After giving him some space to think, Caleb goes in search of Essek.
Caleb didn’t know what to expect when he showed up at Essek’s doorstep, not really. They had come to an understanding during those dangerous final days in Aeor, and while they had never spoken the words aloud, he knew what he felt for the other man was real. They just both carried so much baggage with them, baggage that would take a lifetime to overcome. But he was willing to sift through it together, if they could. As best they could.
The look of surprise on Essek’s face melted into warmth when he recognized Caleb, and he ushered him inside.
“Come in, come in. You have impeccable timing, I just made dinner. I hope you like stew.”
Caleb chuckled and tugged on Essek’s hand as he was about to float away into a dimly lit kitchen, pulling him in to press a kiss to his forehead.
“I missed you, Essek Thelyss.”
Essek’s cheeks darkened with embarrassment and he stared tenderly into Caleb’s eyes.
“And I missed you, Caleb Widogast. Come, we have much to talk about, you and I.”
Essek snaked his hand down to twine his fingers in Caleb’s, tugging him forward with an understanding smile on his face.
